Second-Cycle Studies in Nursing – Responding to the Needs of the Healthcare Sector The launch of second-cycle (master’s) studies in Nursing at AKSiM (USMC) is a direct response to the current needs of the labour market and the evolving socio-demographic situation in Poland, Europe, and globally. Nursing remains one of the most in-demand professions. The need for advanced education in nursing is driven by rapid developments in medical and social sciences, the evolution of nursing as an academic discipline, systemic changes in healthcare, and growing societal expectations of the profession. The educational concept of the master’s program is designed to foster the professional development of students—preparing qualified, competent, and mobile graduates with specialized knowledge, advanced practical skills, and strong social competencies in healthcare. The program’s core objective is to deliver cutting-edge medical knowledge and practical training, enabling graduates to provide top-quality nursing services while ensuring the safety of both patients and practitioners. Graduates of the second-cycle (Master’s) Nursing program are awarded the professional title of Master of Nursing, confirming their advanced qualifications in line with European standards. They acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes defined by learning outcomes that enable them to provide high-quality, specialized healthcare to individuals of all ages – including the healthy, ill, disabled, and terminally ill. They are also well prepared to deliver services in the areas of health promotion, disease prevention, and to initiate and support public health efforts within local communities. In addition, they possess essential competencies in management, teamwork, and communication, as well as the ability to conduct research while adhering to ethical standards – all contributing to the development of evidence-based nursing practice. Graduates demonstrate English language proficiency at the B2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), with a strong command of professional medical and nursing terminology.
